The Brief

Bostik needed to relaunch their Fire-ban Sealants range to a specialist audience — architects — without the benefit of face-to-face time.

The pack had to work hard: introduce the product properly, reinforce the partnership, and do it in a way that felt considered, not generic. That meant choosing items architects would actually use. A Moleskine A5 notebook, an architect’s lead pencil, a precision ruler — tools of the trade, presented in a custom box with fitted pockets and branded tissue paper.

The Results

Fourby didn’t just successfully make the leap from comic strip to plush toy — he became a genuine retail success for ARB.

Rolled out across all 43 ARB company-owned stores in Australia, the plush quickly moved towards becoming one of the brand’s top 15 retail products. Its appeal extended well beyond children, connecting with longtime ARB customers and 4WD enthusiasts who already knew and loved the character.

The strength of the initial design also helped streamline production, with the first physical sample requiring only minor adjustments before approval. Every recognisable feature survived the transition from illustration to fabric, creating a product that felt unmistakably Fourby.

Most importantly, the product proved that ARB’s characters could become a broader merchandise range. Fourby’s success led directly to the creation of his companion character, Ariel — extending the comic-strip world into a growing family of collectable branded products. Fourby remains available through ARB’s retail range today.
